On Thursday, May 20, 2010, at 9 p.m., the Lisner-Louise-Dickson-Hurt Home will host a live webcast concert by Washington, DC - based pop/rock band “Side FX,” featuring Kim Cameron.

“From Our Home to Yours: An Online Concert Event Celebrating DC Seniors”

Looking for a venue to broadcast their first world-wide web concert, the six-member pop group, Side FX, chose a rather unconventional setting: the drawing room of the Lisner-Louise-Dickson-Hurt Home located in upper northwest DC. As a residence for low and modest income seniors of the District of Columbia, the Home strives to be a champion for the elderly poor of the nation’s capital, working to alleviate their hardships while recognizing their self-worth, dignity, and independence. The Home offers a wide range of personalized short-term, long-term, and rehabilitative care to a diverse population of 100+ men and women and is the only long term care facility in Washington, DC exclusively serving disadvantaged senior citizens of the city. As a tax exempt public charity, the Home relies on outside donations to sustain its mission of service now and into the future.

The band’s selection of the Lisner-Louise-Dickson-Hurt Home as the site for their interactive web concert isn’t really all that unusual when you consider that its members make it a point to give freely of their time and talents to help others. Supporting a number of charitable causes, Side FX sees it as their responsibility to help the underprivileged and what better place to do that but in a home for the elderly poor. As lead singer Kim Cameron stated, “There are so many people who have not had an easy time making ends meet. That is what this Home specializes in – supporting seniors who otherwise would not have a chance.” The Home’s CEO, Ward Orem, echoed this sentiment. “This collaboration between Side FX and the Home serves as a true testament to how we achieve our mission of empowering low and modest income seniors to live their lives to the fullest.”

Side FX (a play on “side effects” used in recorded music) began their “It’s Your Turn” tour at the beginning of this year and has performed in 18 states so far. They have appeared on the CBS “Morning Show” and have sold out performances at DC’s renowned Blues Alley as well as at the 2009 New Year’s Eve bash at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center. The May 20th concert at the Lisner-Louise-Dickson-Hurt Home will be attended by residents and staff and will include songs from the band’s first album, “Contradictions” along with songs from their latest release, “Turning Point.” During the concert, viewers will be able to make online donations directly to the Home.
