Empower Seniors

Friends of the Lisner-Louise-Dickson-Hurt Home know the value of the programs and services we offer exclusively to indigent and modest income seniors of Washington, DC. Since opening our doors in 1941, we have offered to the residents a home that provides joy, laughter, and a remarkable quality of life and care. We are grateful to those who support us with their gifts and realize that their generosity enables us to provide programs and a home to those with few if any alternatives.

While we celebrate the strength of the Home today, we must nonetheless acknowledge that support is needed if the Home is to successfully sustain its current role as provider of housing, health, and life care services to future generations of modest and low income elderly of the District of Columbia. Each year, the Home must cover expenses associated with residents’ care which are not fully reimbursed; these expenses generally total in the range of 1.5-2 million dollars. Since compromising on the quality of care is not an option the Home is willing to accept, we are working diligently to raise funds from private patrons’ donations, grants, and bequests. Our success in doing so will ease the financial burden the Home has assumed and assure that our standards of excellence and our viability as a caregiver for at-risk seniors of Washington, D.C. are not threatened. Each and every donation makes a difference in the lives of our residents in many ways, whether it is through the purchase of medical equipment, providing for their medical care, making upgrades to public spaces, or helping to pay for their food, shelter, or social activities. A gift today provides sustainability for tomorrow.

The contribution levels that we recognize through our Annual Fund campaign offer a clear understanding of how all manner of gifts translate into critically needed support. Please know that your gift helps to provide extraordinary health and life care services to indigent and modest income seniors of the District of Columbia, empowering them to live their lives to the fullest.

The Home is recognized as a tax exempt public charity under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Gifts are tax deductible.
