Empower Seniors

Friends of the Lisner-Louise-Dickson-Hurt Home know the value of the programs and services we offer exclusively to indigent and modest income seniors of Washington, DC. Since opening our doors in 1941, we have offered to the residents a home that provides joy, laughter, and a remarkable quality of life and care. We are grateful to those who support us with their gifts and realize that their generosity enables us to provide programs and a home to those with few if any alternatives.

Even the most basic of care provided to a senior is expensive. When one considers the magnitude of care the residents of the Home need and deserve, it becomes apparent that our costs are a challenge to our overall operation. These costs are never passed on to those we serve because, quite simply, they don't have the resources. The Home's staff works diligently to balance our mission of service to disadvantaged seniors with the realities of today's economy. While health related expenses skyrocket, it is virtually impossible for federal and local reimbursement programs to provide the needed dollars to adequately cover expenses.

We encourage our supporters to consider the multitude of ways their gifts can help the Home's residents. For example, donations are used to offset the cost of their housing, pay for their medications and physician services, purchase furniture, and cover transportation costs for resident outings, among many others. All money given to the Home is spent directly on resident needs and services and every gift, no matter the size, is greatly appreciated.

The contribution levels that we recognize through our Annual Fund campaign and honor at our yearly Garden Party offer a clear understanding of how all manner of gifts translate into critically needed support. Please know that your gift helps to provide extraordinary health and life care services to indigent and modest income seniors of the District of Columbia, empowering them to live their lives to the fullest.
